Chapter 3

The vast dining room spread further to the extended corridor that led into a spacious kitchen. The pictures that used to hang on those walls had been eroded by saddened thoughts and Muler had thrust several of them in his furnace. The residues still bore traces of frames and ashes that didn’t consume easily. I forced myself to fix the salad as quickly as I could and forget about everything that had happened on campus.

The big question remained; how was I ever going to meet up with all that I had concealed from him? I heard his gentle footsteps stemming from the pantry while I came out with the dressed tray of the morning salad. The warmth and lit house didn’t give hints of what time it could be outside but I was keen to deduce from his twisted eyebrows that it was getting to six in the morning.

How was he living in such a big house all by himself? I wondered, watching him fight with his advanced steps and the thought of our nightly fight spurred me to light a slim smile. “Hello,” I muttered.

“Hey,” he said, reaching his hand and caressing my hair tenderly. He pulled me to his chest and stroked my arms smoothly, as to apologize for last night. Was it necessary?

“I made salad,” I said, placing the tray on the shiny wooden mahogany table that gave his house an extra class. It had been a dream come true for him, facing his family genealogy and the African-American woman he’d kept in a glass box, I was to some extent, an apocalypse of their family tree. He’d never felt so fulfilled all his life and even when he’d thought of the work load he had for the day, I noticed a mild shrug that hit his shoulders.

“Can I look?” He teased with a gentle hand that swept across my shoulders to my chest. The soft twinkles of his palms against my chest fired robust desires that kept me speechless for a while. I could only nod and on a second note, I found out that my breath stuck in my gut as his hand continued to circle the sphere of my semi voluptuous breasts that clipped to my robe.

“Is it still dark outside?” I muttered as his lips fell on mine, over my shoulder. It had been the kiss we’d missed to savor the night before and I failed to remember why I had to be cruel and selfless to deny him the chance to express how much he wanted this. Gradually, my hands snaked through his neck to his spongy short hair, circled around his ears and rested behind his neck as we both munched passionately.

“The sun’s coming up… With a nice tray of salad,” he muttered with a smile I could sense with my eyes closed. There was always a huge difference between his subtle nature and Mark’s vociferous romance. At the time, it was the best but at the realization of sex gains; I had become more like an ordinary furniture in his house than his wife.
