The next morning, I decided that I wanted some alone time with Ashley. I had absolutely no problem sharing her with Nick, but sometimes, I just wanted her to myself.

I was making some French toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon when she stumbled out of her bedroom with a sleepy pit bull on her heels. She opened the door for him and then slumped in a chair at the kitchen table.

“Are you okay?” I asked her.

“Perfect. Just a bit tired. I feel like I could sleep for a month. I slept well last night, but I want more.”

I put a plate in front of her. She preferred jelly with her french toast, so I put some grape jam in front of her. She ate everything and had two glasses of orange juice. She sat back and smiled.

“You are a wonderful cook,” she said.

“Better than Nick?” I asked, coyly.

“You guys are two totally different men, but equal,” she answered back, with a smug look on her face.

I sat across from her, as she leaned back in her chair and sighed with satisfaction.

“Thank you for breakfast.”

“You’re welcome. How are things going at the camp?”

She told me about the ride that she, Leslie, and Sa’Tori took yesterday on the horses. She talked a lot about the girls and how wonderful they were. I smiled, because I could hear the passion in her voice as she told me how Sa’Tori had taken Leslie under her wing, and Leslie was thriving.

Her eyes lit up with excitement as she talked.

“The camp was Lindsey’s brain baby. Jamel and Xavier helped her make it happen. I’m just so lucky that I had the chance to be a part of it.”

She was glowing and her smile lit up the room. “So how are things going for you?”

“Excellent. We are going to have to hire more electricians. The really good ones are hard to find.”

“Maybe you should talk to a couple of the older boys at the camp who don’t really want a four-year education. They could apprentice and gain some skills. Then, they could work for you and maybe even start their own company and give you guys a run for your money.”

“That’s not a bad idea. I’ll talk to Nick about it.”

I looked at my watch and said, “I have an hour or so before I need to head in. I thought maybe this beautiful girl I know might like a little bit of quality time.”

“Beautiful girl? Where? I thought I was the only one for you.”

Rolling my eyes, I smirked at her. We let Poseidon in, and put him in Ashley’s room. Then, I led her into my room.

Her blue eyes were captivating. For a moment, I just stood still and stared into them. They were the most brilliant blue, and reflected the very heavens that were above us. Her eyes were a reflection of her soul. They showed her love, her hunger, and her want. They were hypnotizing.

When I was able to tear my eyes away from hers, I focused on her mouth.
