I think the window was dirty, but maybe not.
The sun shined a little, so I moved the white curtain, which was long but easy to move. Even when the curtain was in front of the window, I could see through it a little, vaguely. I moved it with my hand, and opened the window, thinking it might be warm outside. It wasn’t the right time for it to be warm, but it would have been good if it were, because I wore only my flannel nightgown.
The window wasn’t easy to open because it was new, although not actually new, quite old, just new to me. The handle was different from the one at home,
but now this was home, my room.
The handle was old and shiny from lots of hands (but not my hands),
and the glass was tall and narrow and quite different from my old window.
