So we have two fairly clear scenarios that explain the pattern of events in the civil war.
First (1) Prince Nowi-Llacheu is killed in the Vandal War of 548 A.D. (2) Princes Gwalchmai and Modred are the logical favourites to succeed Arthur. (3) Arthur marries the second Gwenhwyfar, and the older queen gets angry. (4) The Prince Gwalchmai bides his time, but Prince Modred rebels and tries to seize the crown fearing the birth of sons to the new young queen. (5) Both Gwalchmai and Modred are killed in the civil war. (6) Arthur marries his third queen as the second was unfaithful with Modred and so Morgan is born.
Second (1) Prince Nowi Llacheu is killed in the Vandal War of 548 A.D. (2) The Princes Gwalchmai and Modred are the logical choice as his nearest successors. (3) The Prince Gwalchmai is chosen as the Edling by Arthur. (4) This causes his brother Modred to rebel and try to seize the crown. (5) A civil war erupts and Prince Gwalchmai sticks with Arthur, as his heir. (6) Both Gwalchmai and Modred are killed in the Battle of Camlan, and Arthur is wounded. (7) With no heirs suitable Arthur is forced to marry again and Morgan is born. (8) Because Arthur's second queen was unfaithful with Modred, Arthur takes a third queen and so Morgan, Gwaednerth and Ithael are born.
The most likely date for the Battle of Camlan is 570 A.D. and not 562 A.D. with the Vandal war in which Nowi-Llacheu, Noah the Glittering One was killed in 548 A.D. This means that if Morgan, the son of the second Gwenhwyfar, born around 562 A.D. or slightly earlier, was very young, around 1 year old when his grandfather, King Meurig died around 570 A.D. and 10 years old when his father, King Arthur, died around 579 A.D., then here is the reason for Arthur's secret burial at night. There would have been a need to keep everyone guessing about King Arthur, until Morgan's position was strengthened. If no one was sure whether Arthur was dead or not, Morgan had a few priceless years to grow older and to become strong enough to hold the kingdom. This appears to be the case and there is supporting evidence. The youngest of Arthur's brothers was Frioc, and the young King Morgan had to kill him in a contest for the throne of South Wales. This is described in the Llandaff Charters.
The three young sons of Arthur's old age and second marriage grew up to succeed him in South Wales, but there was no way that Morgan could follow his ancestors as paramount kings of Britain. The drama of the true story of Arthur, as we can reconstruct, it is staggering; no author of fiction could have invented it. The faithful clan followers taking the dead king's body to the secret cave of the Abbot-Druid Illtyd at the dead of night, then Illtyd, his close relative, burying the body secretly in the cave at the place of mystery.
