Chapter 4
Without the rain beating against the roof and windows, the cabin was quiet. Too quiet. Nick found himself making more noise than necessary, just to drive away the reminder of his solitude, banging cupboards as he put away the breakfast dishes, letting silverware drop from a few extra inches just to get that satisfying clink.
It would have been easier to bear if he wasnât alone, but when dawn had come and the silence testified to the rainâs cessation, Jay had been dressed and out of the door so fast Nick couldnât help but wonder if heâd been looking for an excuse all along. He didnât entertain the notion for long, not once full memory of everything they had done and said to each other in the last twenty-four hours had come roaring back, but it had stung long enough for his good-bye to be more curt than he would have liked.
Itâs his job. The mountain is his responsibility. Heâs just going out to check on the roads and check in with his boss. Itâs got nothing to do with you.
Nick repeated it to himself in between recollections of how enjoyable the night had been. Well, enjoyable wasnât the best word to describe it. Amazing. Incredible. Mind-blowing was probably the closest to get to the truth. Jay was one of the most responsive lovers he had ever had, considerate to his needs, demanding when Nick needed and yielding when he didnât. After fucking Jay, theyâd napped for a couple hours, waking only when Jay began to play with Nickâs ass. Rather than ask to fuck him, however, Jay rolled Nick off where heâd snuggled up on top of him, sitting back and sweeping a hungry gaze over his body.
âI want to watch you jack off with the clamps on,â heâd said.
Nick had been more than happy to comply. Especially when Jay started stroking off, too. His low voice coaxed Nick along, adding to his excitement even more than the sharp tugs of the chains. When Nick had come, Jay pulled hard on his prick, angling so that he shot all over Nickâs stomach. Then heâd proceeded to lick Nick clean.
There was no bad there. And theyâd fallen asleep again in each otherâs arms. Nick couldnât ask for anything more, even if a small, irrational part of him really wanted to.
He began gathering his belongings, packing things away in anticipation of leaving. If Jay didnât return by mid-afternoon, heâd head out and try the road. It would likely be clear enough to start back for the city then. He needed to be ready to go when the time came.
It was almost lunch before a light knock pulled Nick from his packing. At first, Nick didnât think it could be Jay. Why would he feel like he had to knock on the door after everything they did together? But Nick opened up to a smiling Jay, and he noticed that in the fresh sunshine, Jayâs hair was a lighter shade.
âPlease tell me youâve still got some food around here for lunch.
