MIA

Three Weeks Later…

I called the clinic yesterday. I have an appointment in a week when we return from our honeymoon. If Trevor ever finds out I aborted our child, he may never forgive me. This is a decision I may never forgive myself for. I can’t bring a child into our world knowing they will always have a target on their back. Besides, I’m a psycho, or so everyone says. Clearly, any child of mine would be better off never being born. Babies deserve mothers like Willow, not me. I’m a bitch. I know that. What kind of a woman makes this decision without even informing the father? I can barely look at myself in the mirror, but this is how it has to be. Neither of us would budge. This baby would only tear us apart.

A knock sounds on the door, so I get off my chair and go to the door to let my girls in. We are staying at Hunter’s hotel tonight, so we’ll be here for our wedding. We’re already married, but this somehow makes it all seem so real. I told Trevor we didn’t need a fancy wedding, but for some reason, he wants me to experience everything in life. Obviously, I don’t deserve my husband.

Opening the door, I paste a fake smile on my face, “Come in,” I say to Willow, Jade, and Ivy.

Trevor is staying with the guys tonight, and the girls are staying with me. Neither of us are too keen on the idea, but Willow insisted—something about tradition.

“We’ll be right back,” Willow says, grabbing my hand and pulling me into the bedroom.

“Sit,” she orders.

I giggle but play along and sit on the edge of the bed.

“Did you take it?”

I fold my arms over my chest while sighing, “Yes.”

“And? Am I going to be an aunt or what?”

She stands with her hands on her hips. There is no doubt in my mind Willow would make an excellent aunt. I hate disappointing her like this.

“I am but-”

I’m cut off by her squeals of excitement.

“Willow.”

She wipes tears from her cheek, “You’re going to be an amazing mother, Mia.”

I shake my head, “I’m not having it. And you can’t tell Max.”

Willow stumbles backward as if I slapped her across the face, “What?”

“I’m having an abortion in a week.”

Covering her mouth with her hand as if she’s horrified, she says, “Oh Mia.”

“I’m sorry.”

Shaking her head, she adds, “I don’t like it. My heart hurts, but if this is what you and Trevor have decided I have to accept it.”

Her eyes widen when she sees the expression on my face. Willow is very good at reading people. It’s one of the reasons she’d be an asset to this business if only she were willing.

“He doesn’t know,” she whispers.

“No. And you can’t tell him.”

Willow sinks onto the bed like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders, “Mia. He deserves to know. This isn’t right. He wants a child so badly. You’re going to destroy him.”

I wrap my arms around myself, trying to protect my breaking heart, “I know.
