Chapter Three

Christ. Seeing Sandy in the flesh after looking at her photographs for so long felt like a punch to Danny’s gut. Moments after she’d left, he wanted to yank open the door, call out to her and demand she come back. Clearly, he’d spooked her, but there was no denying the fire between them.

Danny couldn’t wait to get his hands on her again, but the next time there wouldn’t be clothes between them, or barriers. Clearly, Sandy kept an armor around her heart, guarded it like a dragon protecting her hoard, but Danny liked a challenge.

She forgot him—that hurt a little, but what did Danny expect? They hadn’t seen each other for fifteen years, only met once when they were kids, but that memory remained sealed in Danny’s mind. Danny often saw her in his mind’s eye, Sandy at eight, shy, hesitantly grabbing his hand. He remembered hearing her cry when she realized he couldn’t swim and how soft her fur felt, brushing against his.

Back then, he couldn’t tell her the monstrous truth—that although they’ve found each other, the missing halves of each other’s souls, he needed to leave the next day. His drunk excuse of a father found a new job in the city.

Danny debated leaving home, but he couldn’t leave his mother alone with that abusive bastard. He shielded her from his fists. Became bigger, stronger, and finally convinced her to move out of that house with him the moment he turned fifteen. She died five years later, but Danny had found a new home by then, a pack he’d helped build.

Cindy White would be proud of him, and she would have liked Sandy.

“Fuck, what’s she doing to me? One kiss and she’s the only thing on my mind,” he muttered, collapsing on the living room couch.

But what a fucking kiss that was. Damn. Her lips felt so soft. Sandy tasted so good. Danny wanted to explore that sexy body of hers. She would be able to take his strength. God, it was just right, the way her soft body melded perfectly against his hard one.

Doubting he’d get any work done tonight, Danny stripped down and headed for the shower. Even then, under the cold water, only thoughts of Sandy preoccupied his mind. Groaning, Danny reached for his dick and started to stroke. Images of her naked body filled his mind. He knew Sandy was a virgin, but he doubted she would be the blushing kind. No, she’d retain her sassiness and wildness.

“Sandy,” Danny growled out her name as he finished off, spraying his seed all over the shower wall. Turning the cold water on again, Danny thought he’d feel much better after. He wasn’t any better. In fact, he wanted Sandy more.

Fuck. How would he survive one entire week without her?
