Half past noon, we're off the ship and on the charter boat for our first activity in Juneau. The boat is full like the last one we took in Icy Strait Point for the whale watching tour. This one has whales too, but there are also supposed to be orcas, harbor seals and Steller sea lions.
Sitting back in my seat, the boat takes off and we enter the channel. So I don't miss an opportunity, I keep the camera to my face and move it around, zooming in to make sure I don't miss anything.
"Alaska, there's something over there," Drew whispers, and I move my camera to where he's pointing.
Two orcas jump out of the water and I gasp at their majestic beauty. Their appearance is only the beginning as I start spotting every animal they said would pop up in this area.
"Alaska is just so beautiful," I say with a sigh and set my camera on my lap.
"Yes, it is. And so are you," Drew says, grasping my free hand.
Smiling up at him, he kisses my forehead gently, but his eyes shoot down to my lips, staying there for longer than a minute before looking back into my eyes.
"Later," he whispers, and an excited shiver goes down my spine.
After the two hour boat trip, Drew and I separate from the rest of my family to explore the town on our own. We start on the trails that prospectors went on to pan for gold. Each stop has a crowd of people in front of it, so I take a picture of each one and move on.
After the trail we get a mid afternoon lunch at the first restaurant we come across because I'm starving. Walking in, I spot a few of my younger sisters with my parents and they wave us over.
"Nothing has happened, right?" Dad asks anxiously as we sit down at the table.
"No, nothing...yet," I respond.
"Well that's good," Mom says and takes a bite of the sandwich on her plate.
Drew and I order a sandwich and burger, respectively, when the waitress comes back to take the empty plates from my siblings.
"Excuse me, one second," Drew says, and pulls his phone out of his pocket.
Oh, maybe he's going to call his friend. I hope everything's okay with him still.
"Hey Gerard, sorry I couldn't talk last night. How's everything at the shop? Did we get those new designs in?" He pauses for a moment.
"Great, great. Well I'll talk to you later tonight when I get back to my room. Yes, I'm not using my phone a lot. Later."
He moves the phone away from his face and taps on the screen. "Sorry about that Mr. and Mrs. State."
Dad shakes his head. "Not a problem. It's great that you own your own business."
Drew's smile widens. "Thank you, Mr. State. Maybe I could learn a few things from you. You expanded very quickly."
"Yes, but I wouldn't have been able to without the help of my best friend. The people you keep around
