Dressing the Candle

The candle should be dressed from the center out toward each end. (See Figure 16.) Hold the candle and rub it with oil from the center out to the end; then from the center out to the other end. All the time you are anointing the candle, concentrate on the person the candle represents or the purpose of the candle.

If a candle is used in a ritual, it must be anointed. If it is the same candle that is being used in a repeat of a ritual (a ritual that must be done on three Fridays in a row, for example), it must still be anointed for that second or third time, even though it was anointed in a previous rite.
