Five

Max’s playroom was a work of art. Tig had noticed the DIY projects around the house—a stripped-back door, carpet pulled up in the hall—but in here everything gleamed, perfect. All the furniture was custom, smooth polished dark wood with leather upholstery. There were racks for paddles and floggers and canes, for leather cuffs, chains, gags, and things Tig recognized as kinky though he couldn’t immediately work out what they were for.

“It’s wonderful,” Tig said, turning to Adam and feeling suddenly shy.

Adam grinned. “Daddy loves his toys,” he said, as if this was just a fun hobby of Max’s that Adam indulged. “Check this out.”

He unlocked a door that led straight into the main bathroom. It was all done up in gray and white tile, everything clean and polished to a shine. Fluffy white towels were stacked on a shelf next to a vast collection of toiletries.

“Do you need to clean up?” Adam asked.

Was there anything that wouldn’t make him blush? “Uh…it wouldn’t hurt,” Tig said, acutely aware that he was about to be mostly or completely naked in front of both his crushes, and it might be worth it to spruce a little.

Adam grinned. “Help yourself to anything. Hey,” and he stopped to put a hand on Tig’s shoulder, squeezing him gently. “You know, mostly I invited you to Christmas because I like you, right?” The look on his face was so sincere that Tig felt it slide into him, anchoring somewhere inside. “You don’t have to do anything. I really, really don’t want to talk you into stuff you don’t want to do. So if you don’t want me flailing away at you—”

“I do want that,” Tig said. He realized he had his hand in Adam’s sweater only when he’d clenched it into a fist. It took an effort to make himself let go, especially with Adam’s eyes on him, bright and green and beautiful. “I don’t mind if you practice on me.”

“I might fuck it up,” Adam said, still watching Tig with that same sincere expression. “I don’t want to hurt you in a way you don’t like.”

It was sweet. For all Tig wished it could be more than it was, this was still wonderful in a way he hadn’t known he could have. “It’s okay if you do. I won’t freak out, because I know you’ll stop if I ask you to. I trust you.”

Adam’s expression melted. “That means a lot to me.” His smile was warm in a way that made Tig warm all the way to his toes. “I’ll leave you to it.” And then he was gone, closing the door behind him.
