Chapter 11
Shane grabbed Inziâs arms. âWhat did she say? Does she know where Callum is?â
Inzi flapped her hands in a calm down motion. âDeep breaths. Iâve told you everything I know.â
He dropped his hands and rushed to me, picking me up and spinning me around. Then he carried me towards the road.
I playfully swatted his back. âPut me down!â
He laughed but placed me back on the ground. The fading light of the afternoon brought out the golden tones in his hazel eyes, and that smile hovering over his lips took my breath away.
I ran my fingers through his hair and pulled him down to me. Our lips touched in a kiss so light shivers swirled through my tummy, then lower. I gripped his hair, pressing my mouth to his, tasting him. He nipped at my lip, his hands drifting lower to cup my ass.
Inzi cleared her throat.
My cheeks heated. Iâd forgotten sheâd be watching.
âThe car should be here any minute, so Iâd stop the smooching unless you want our driver to get an eyeful.â
Shane rolled his eyes and dipped under my chin, kissing my neck. Sweet tingles spread down my side. I bit my tongue, wanting more despite the audience. But we didnât have time. We had a lead â a potential witness â waiting for us.
A van squealed around the corner. Too fast. My heart stuttered. Was it the same one from before? They swerved towards us, mounting the kerb, barely losing speed.
The grill and front bumper had to be three metres away, twoâ¦
I stopped breathing, my eyes stinging. We didnât have time to move. Another second and weâd both be dead.
Inzi blinked into existence beside us. She grabbed our arms, and a second later I was on the other side of the street, disorientated and as dizzy as if Iâd downed half a bottle of vodka.
I threw my arms out for balance and focused on even breaths, trying not to throw up. Shane wasnât dead. I wasnât dead. Sheâd saved us.
Shane tottered towards the road. The car was long gone, but Inzi was in the middle of the street, staring after it.
âGet a plate?â Shane asked, his voice a touch breathless.
âNo. Bastard covered his licence plate with black duct tape.â
My dizziness subsided little by little until it no longer felt like the concrete beneath my feet had the consistency of jelly.
I straightened slowly and double-checked my limbs. Not even a bruise. Thank fuck for Inzi.
âHow the hell does this guy keep finding us? Is someone tipping him off?â Shane asked.
Inzi shrugged. âIf they are, it could be almost anyone. Weâve asked enough questions and ruffled enough feathers for there to be talk all over.â
Especially here. The van finding us outside Greysonâs was stranger.
âWhat concerns me more isâ¦â She shook her head.
âWhat?â I prompted.
âI thought I imagined it, but itâs the same, Iâm sure. He had a beachy tattoo on his arm with a blistering handprint over it.â
âShit. Itâs Nikos?â
Shaneâs cheeks were bright red, his jaw tense as he glared after the van.
