Chapter Thirteen
“I’m not afraid of the dark, I’m just afraid of not seeing you.”
“Don't be scared Shay, here, hold my hand. That way you know I'm always beside you.”
Seamus
She almost called me Shay again.
My head rolls against the back of the couch, and I look into brown eyes that should be blue. Sparkling blue ones that look deep into my soul and read me like a book. Barry always knew what I was thinking or how to calm me down when my anxiety of people leaving me first started. Is Axel right? Could it really be her, and she's just been fooling us with a brown pair of contacts? If she is I can't tell, and as much as I want it to be her, as much as I need it to be her, I'm not about to question it and drive her away. I've never been this comfortable with a girl before and felt so instantly attached, not since I was eight and hiding behind my mother's legs when my parents introduced me to Barretta. I only ever called her by her real name once, and she corrected me right away telling me to call her Barry. It made me instantly accepted at being able to call her something only her best friend did. I love the fucker, but Axel was not so accepting. He was so jealous. Which only made me happier to have Barry beside me to back me up and protect me from him in that first week or so.
One look around my mother's legs into those captivating blue eyes and I lost every bit of shyness I walked in with and walked right up to her and took her to hand shake. It was so tiny, but she had a strong grip, showing me right away that she was strong and she wasn't going to take crap from no boy. Then keeping our hands entwined she ran me upstairs to her room to play. One of the best days of my life. One of the most memorable.
I get so lost in her eyes--that should be another color--that I forget what she had asked me. I really didn't mean to whinge about losing the game, I'm not a poor sport, but with it being my last game I don't want to say goodbye to all of my teammates who have turned friends. My friendship with them is nothing like I have with the guys, but we've still created a brotherhood over the past four years. I really don't want this all to end yet, and I have no idea where I'm going to go from here. I'm still undecided about what I should do after college. I just want to make sure that I'm close to at least one of them if we have to split up after graduation.
Oh yeah, she was saying something about endings sucking. Fuck yeah they do. See it's like Bibi can read my mind just like Barry could. This is so fucking with my head.
