I AWOKE WITH a start the next morning with the sound of my doorbell. It took me a moment to realize I was alone in my bed, and that I’d slept straight through for the entire night. Something I hadn’t done since before Olivia was born.

I didn’t know where the guys were, and for all I knew, they’d flown back to their own homes and lives, never to return. But there was a note taped to the pillow next to me that said they’d gone off to their cabin at seven this morning, and to please call them to set up the time for their DNA tests.

No mention of our hookup the previous night.

I didn’t know if I liked the omission. From the time I’d opened my eyes this morning, those feelings and memories consumed me.

Still, I was thankful they were still in town and hadn’t jumped on a private flight out of here.

“Thank you,” I said aloud. I was so relieved that I didn’t even mind the knocking on my door.

My phone rang, and I answered. It was Tara.

“We’re outside. I have Olivia. I waited for you to call, but she couldn’t wait anymore. Do you know it’s eleven o’clock?”

It was still dark and gloomy outside, which somewhat explained my oversleeping, but still, this was way over the top of oversleeping. This was more into the passed-out stage.

“What? No. It can’t be,” I said, unable to believe I’d slept that long. “Why aren’t the girls in nursery school?”

“There was some overnight rain damage to the building, but they hope to have it fixed by the end of the week. In the meantime, don’t stress. We can work something out with Olivia. Having the girls together gives me a break. You know how they love to play together. Are you decent? I have Luke with me and Goldie. We brought over lunch. You don’t have to answer the door. I have my key, but I didn’t know who else might be in there with you and what state everyone would be in.”

“I’m alone. They drove over to their rented cabin on the river. I won’t see them again until later this afternoon. I’m getting into the shower right now. Come on in. I’ll only be five minutes,” I said, then disconnected.

I rolled out of bed, grabbed my crutches, and made my way around the room, grabbing a clean pair of jeans, underwear, and a shirt from my closet, then I made it to my bathroom with little effort. My ankle felt a lot better, and it could take some weight. It seemed I only needed one crutch, and I was fine.

The hot water felt good on my skin as I quickly washed while trying my best not to think about the previous night with Zack, Jonah, and Tripp. Yeah, I was a little sore down there, but not as bad as I thought I would be.

Still, I didn’t have time to linger on any of those delicious thoughts. It was a one-time thing that would never happen again.
