Music in the Park. Talk. Father and I discover we have both dug seeds out of the ground when 15 years old to study the miracle of growth, and watched for hours. We begin here and end in Lapland. Father says: No such thing possible as a universal literature. What will the Laplanders get out of words like "rutilant," "truculence," etc. Those are Spanish words—Spanish feelings. I, the nomad, sit listening and feel myself becoming Spanish all through. [Mosen Vacinto] Verdaguer, a great Catalonian poet, said to Father, who was young and anxious over great confusions in his head: "Confusion is a sign of vast embracing. Don't be anxious about it. Later, you will make the synthesis. First take in, understand, love everything.... It's good!"
