Here is an example of what it is like to spend my time under the hawkish, all-seeing eye of Mrs Hunter.

Once upon a time, a girl called Joy gets into trouble for not finishing her description and diagram of a volcano for the big geography display.

Nobody lives happily ever after.

The end.

Mrs Hunter’s side of that story is that I don’t listen to instructions and I don’t get on with my work and I absolutely fail to do as I am told. She says the rest of the class have managed to finish their writing and their volcano diagrams in time. Everyone else has their work displayed on the wall, but mine is missing because I didn’t complete it. I don’t deserve to be included, so as usual, and in a new and humiliating way, I am the one who gets left out.

My side of the story is quite different.

In mine, when Mrs Hunter tells us about the geography display, I say two things:

‘I love volcanoes,’ and,

‘I’ve been inside one.’
