Aaron walked into the incident room in front of Pasha and was met by the tired stressed faces of the rest of the team.

‘How did it go?’ Ross asked with enthusiasm, eager for something to work on.

Aaron shrugged. ‘Matthew Harper was no help at all, still saying he doesn’t remember anything even when we informed him that Hannah had been taken and it was connected to him and what he was running from.’ He pulled his jacket off and walked to his desk. ‘What’s been happening here?’

Ross’s shoulders dropped.

Martin leaned back in his chair. ‘We’ve been working on the vehicle in the video. It’s the second time we’ve been unable to get a full licence plate which makes it the second time we’ve been unable to identify it. It’ll take weeks, possibly months to identify it from the partial. Obviously we’re going to work that angle and track it down, but it’s not a lead that’s going to bring us closer to finding Hannah any time soon. Though it was good work on Ross’s part to identify the vehicle.’

Ross frowned, the lines already in his face deepening.

Pasha walked past him to her desk and patted his shoulder.

‘Have the CSU come back with anything yet?’ Aaron asked.

Martin shook his head. ‘Nothing yet. But going by the video we’re not going to get anything from her car as they didn’t go near it, they grabbed her after she had exited it.’

‘What about Matthew Harper’s car? Have they been informed this is linked to his case? If anything in his vehicle can tell us where he’s been that could help us.’ Aaron needed something. Anything. To say they were a step closer to finding her.

‘I updated them,’ Martin said. ‘And they’re working on it as a priority, but we’ve heard nothing back. It takes time to process evidence in their world. But they are putting a rush on it. They’re aware this is for one of our own, Aaron.’

‘It’s not good enough. We know what this is about but still we’re no further forward. How can this be?’ He wanted facts and information. The flimsiness of the case was frustrating him.

The room went quiet.

‘I’m sorry,’ he said. ‘I know there’s nothing you can do to speed them up and they’ll be doing what they can. I shouldn’t take my stress out on you.’

Evie walked into the room, her eyes heavy and red-rimmed, her hair tied back away from her face, which was pale and dull.

‘What’re you still doing here?’ Martin asked her.

Evie bit her lower lip for a second. ‘I couldn’t bear to go home while Hannah is still out there. Do you have anything?’ Tears sprang to her eyes.

Pasha walked over to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Evie leaned into the gesture and more tears appeared and rolled down her cheeks. ‘Please tell me you have something on her by now?’

‘We know the case it’s connected to,’ said Pasha. ‘It’s a start.’

‘But you don’t know where she is?’ Evie whispered.
