Chapter 8: The Parting of Ways

Aurovin stood on the shores of an unknown island staring blankly at the colossal tidal wave approaching the shores at an alarming speed. His heart was beating rapidly, and his first instinct was to turn and run. But strangely, Aurovin was drawn to the thunderous chaos occurring in the sea. It was not until the wave was a little closer before he realized it would swallow him in one clean swoop if he did not retreat. Aurovin finally broke out of his daydream and ran the other way. As he turned to look if he had escaped the sea’s wrath he was stunned to see that the tidal wave did not subside at the shores of the island as expected, but continued to encroach into the island and seemed to be growing even larger. Aurovin continued to run, increasing his speed and daring not to look back. All he heard was a chaotic thunderous sound behind, as the wave violently destroyed all in its path. Aurovin’s feet felt the violent vibration from underneath him as he raced through the island. The wave appeared to be growing even stronger and faster, as residue sprinkled on Aurovin from behind. Out of fear and panic Aurovin called out for help, but there was no one in sight, no single person on the island. Unfortunately, to his dismay Aurovin had reached the other end of the island heading towards the sea again. Out of shock and fear Aurovin stopped at the foot of the sea, seemingly awaiting his fatal fate as the giant wave swallowed the last piece of the island, ready to consume its lone victim. Aurovin closed his eyes and braced for the impact, there was a scream but not from Aurovin. The scream continued to get louder, until…

Aurovin opened his eyes and found himself next to Olerac, Janus and Zaadu within the quarters of the Verraden. Zaadu yelled in pain after Janus accidentally rolled over his bandaged finger. Surprisingly Janus was still deep asleep after Zaadu screamed and pushed him away. But Aurovin was woken up, thank goodness, he thought, it was only a dream. Unfortunately, Aurovin’s fear got the best of him and the young blacksmith chose not to go back to sleep. He decided to go above the deck of the ship and get some fresh air. Subconsciously Aurovin hoped to find Belcienda above the ship deck, so as to finish where they had left off when they returned to Traccia. But instead he found Scabro above the deck, staring blankly at the sun peaking at the horizon. Aurovin still felt uncomfortable talking to the pirate after the tragic loss of his crew and attempted to sneak back down his quarters, but Scabro already heard his footsteps.

“Care to join me?” Scabro asked.

Aurovin thought for a moment if to accept the offer, but Scabro persisted.

“I wouldn’t mind some company you know.”

Aurovin reluctantly turned around and joined Scabro above the deck staring at the bright sun.

“You
