“Dohan,” I start. “Our last battle was a great one. Yban Sai Idan may have escaped, but I am proud of every single one of you. As you all know, Kar Khaxis has fallen in battle. His sacrifice shall not be forgotten.”

I cross my arms and tilt me head down respectfully. My entire crew follows my example.

“During our battle, we rescued the human females from the clutches of the Uttux,” I continue. “I’m sure everyone has seen them by now. The humans are a new member of the Interstellar Union, a young species that has barely mastered interstellar travel.”

My warriors nod. I can see from the glint in their eyes and their upturned lips that they too have liked what they’ve seen from the females so far.

“The Uttux have kept the humans sheltered from the universe at large. I think we’ve just discovered why. Zathar, will you tell the crew what we’ve learned?” I ask.

My doctor looks at me in surprise, his eyebrows raised. I commanded him to keep our discovery a secret, but that was yesterday.

That was when there was still the tiniest shred of doubt in my mind.

There is no doubt in my mind anymore. None. Riley is my gini. The feelings that are coursing through my veins even now are inexplicable otherwise.

She is pregnant with my child.
