I know this name, the name on this note. It's important, since it's one I chose. Long ago, I chose this name.
I didn't know the address though, and on the back there's words, âGive the gift.â
The address is not too far, not far at all, so I get on the bus and I go. I sit in the back of the bus and I watch the people as they come in and some of them aren't people but I don't have notes for them. I have a note for him, for the boy.
His address is different from hers, so maybe he's not a boy any more. It. Maybe it's not a boy any more.
Today I bring a straight razor.
I don't put bright blue in until after the bus since people look at me too long when bright blue's in. They never look at me forever though, not after I look at them.
I pull the string and I get off the bus and I go down the street and I find the address, the boy's address. Its address.
Today I guess I'm not waiting, today I guess I'm knocking on the door. I don't want to hunt today, I don't want to wait.
I knock on the door but no one answers and there's buttons next it, buttons with letters. I'm not good with letters but there's a letter on the yellow note so I press that one. There's a buzz from the button but nothing else and there's a speaker over the button and I don't like those either.
I press the button again but the door doesn't open and no voice comes on the speaker so I go around back instead. There's a fire escape, just hovering there over my head, so I scoot a trashcan next to the dumpster and I jump and I catch the ladder and I haul myself up.
I climb until I see a window without light coming from it which means that no one's behind the window waiting or if they are they're sleeping and that's fine too. I have to use my razor to lever the window up a little so I can get my fingers in under and then I lift the window and I come on in.
It's dark but I don't mind the dark.
I don't know if it's people that live here so I go real slow, just real quiet, and I find the door to the hallway. The door locks from the inside so I unlock it and I look into the hall and I look at my little yellow card and its little letter and then I look at the door I've just opened and itâs got the same letter so I close it and I lock it and I decide to have a look around.
There's no lights and there's not even that many rooms and the last one I look in is the bedroom.
The curtains are drawn and there's a lump in the bed and the lump has the name on
