Materials Required: List of words related to a theme
A fun way to get students writing is this âassociation game.â Think of a number of words related to a certain theme. For example, the theme of travel could use the following words: holidays, relax, vacation, transportation, food, etc.
You can say these words one by one and students have to write down the first word that comes to mind when you say it. Using the list from above, they might write: Thailand, beach, fun, motorcycle, curry.
When this is done, students can write a story using the words they've thought of. It may or may not be a true story, but it doesn't really matter either way. To make it more fun, I require that students must use every word they wrote down once! Of course, allow some time for proofreading and editing before sharing the story with other students.
At the end, you can have students share their stories with another student (larger classes), or with everyone for smaller classes.
Procedure:
1. Think of at least 5-10 words related to a certain theme or topic.
2. Say the words one by one and students have to write down the first word that comes to mind.
3. Using these words, students have to write a story. It can be true or not true. Finally, have students share their story with another student or with the class.
