The model must therefore be prepared to be sent to the printer by being without any open holes or naked edges. The command in Rhino is to âFill All Holes,â and when this is successfully completed, the model can be sent to the 3D printer without problems. The model is then considered âwatertight,â the goal of processing before 3D printing.
It can be helpful when learning a subject to be provided with concrete examples. In this spirit, letâs consider the software program Rhino. To summarize the ground-up construction of a 3D model within Rhino, the model is built using geometry by starting with a point, adding points to create lines, adding lines to create a plane, adding planes to create a multi-surface object (such as a cube), the unification of planes to make a solid, and the conversion of a CAD file into a âwatertightâ polygon mesh to be sent to the printer.
