The amount of time it takes to fully migrate the VM will depend on your network, the speed of your NICs, and switches, as well as the amount of memory assigned to the VM. As we have discussed several times, overcommitting resources to a VM is not recommended.

Typically, vMotion traffic is set up using a dedicated physical uplink so that it does not interfere with the management or VM network traffic. However, it can be enabled over the default VMkernel (also known as management) port group, though this is typically not considered a good practice. To enable vMotion, log in to the vSphere Web Client and navigate to vCenter | Hosts and Clusters. Then, select the host you wish to enable vMotion on, then go to the Manage tab and click on Networking. Now, click on the VMkernel adapters that you wish to run vMotion traffic over, then click on the pencil icon as shown in the following screenshot:
