Applying the Revelation of
THE BODY TEMPLE
Commit to treating your body as the temple that it is. It is one of the most precious gifts you ever receive, a divine creation that deserves to be cherished and used fully. We expect a lot from our bodies every day, so let’s affirm their right to expect healthy nourishment from us. Make a commitment to eat well, hydrate, and follow guidelines of good nutrition. Then consider the following action steps.
■ At each meal, I will eat the healthiest, freshest, most colorful foods, organically grown when possible. These include:
• Blue/purple foods: beets, black beans, blackberries, black currants, blueberries, eggplant, plums, purple cabbage, and purple grapes
• Green foods: artichokes, asparagus, avocados, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, celery, collards, cucumbers, green apples, green beans, green bell peppers, green cabbage, green grapes, kale, kiwifruit, lettuce, limes, mustard greens, okra, peas, spinach, watercress, and zucchini
• Orange foods: apricots, cantaloupe, carrots, orange bell peppers, oranges, peaches, pumpkin, squash, and sweet potatoes
• Red foods: apples, cherries, cranberries, kidney beans, pink grapefruit, red beans, red bell peppers, red grapes, strawberries, tomatoes, and watermelon
• Yellow foods: non-GMO corn, grapefruit, lemons, pears, and yellow bell peppers
■ I will eat healthy proteins such as lean meat (for example, bison and chicken), nontoxic fish, and plant proteins such as beans and legumes and cut back on my intake of processed carbohydrates such as breads and other baked goods. I will avoid toxic foods such as sugar and processed products that harm my body, and I will keep my body well hydrated. I will be mindful of how much I am eating and be more conscious of each bite so that I do not eat more than my body needs or wants, which can send me into poor health. I will eat to the point of just being comfortably full. Choosing well makes me feel well.
■ I will live healthfully not only for myself but also for my loved ones so that they may be empowered to improve their health, too. When I fix meals for others, I will do so with gratitude, mindfulness, and a loving heart so that we can all live a better life. And I will give thanks for the gift of healthy food, for the Earth from which it grew, for the hands that prepared it, and to the Divine Being who provides all nourishment.
