Did You Know?
When Michael was nineteen years old, he grew a big bushy beard.
Although he doesn’t like to flaunt it, Michael is extremely wealthy. Some lists even have him as the wealthiest sportsman of all time, above Michael Jordan and even Tiger Woods!
A puppet version of Michael was regularly featured on the French Spitting Image-style show Les Guignols de l’info, broadcast on Canal+.
Most people would say Michael was well-known for being extremely serious on the track. It is therefore a little surprising to learn that when letting his hair down, Michael can really belt out the hits at karaoke!
Michael helped Ferrari design their incredible Enzo - he was particularly helpful in getting the suspension and other handling characteristics perfectly tuned.
Many successful racing drivers of the last decade have credited Schumacher as the reason they became F1 drivers themselves. Sebastian Vettel, perhaps the successor to Michael’s throne, has made this point on a number of occasions.
One of the things that made Michael so successful during his F1 career was his fitness regime. Most other drivers considered him to be the fittest on the grid, therefore giving him (yet another!) advantage over his fellow competitors.
Before his final race for Ferrari in Brazil in 2006, Michael received a trophy from football legend Pele commemorating his years of dedication to Formula One.
Michael was nominated for the Laureas World Sportsman of the Year award in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007, and actually won it in both 2002 and 2004.
The great man is an animal lover, keeping horses, dogs and rabbits at his farm.
