The rocks at the

bottom of the Grand Canyon

are two billion years old.

The Colorado River in the

United States has worn away

tonnes of rock, creating a

huge canyon that extends for

446 kilometres. In places, the

canyon is 1.6 kilometres deep

and 29 kilometres wide.

A meteorite left a hole

in Arizona. Barringer Crater in the

United States is one kilometre across

and 180 metres deep. Droplets of

metal and glass can be found for up to

100 kilometres around the crater. They

are the remains of a metal meteorite,

which exploded on impact with Earth.

A 300,000-tonne metal meteorite crashed into

Arizona and exploded, about 50,000 years ago.

It left this enormous crater in the earth.

The wind can make a

mountain of sand. The Dune of

Pilat on the French Atlantic coast

has been created by wind and

waves piling up sand from the bay

over the last 200 years. The dune

is 105 metres high, 500 metres

wide and nearly 3 kilometres

long. It is slowly creeping inland.

A pine forest has been planted

to try to slow it down.
