If you add strength training into your diet and exercise program, you will maintain muscle mass and build muscle at the same time, all while you lose weight. It’s like the best of both worlds, really. Oh, well, that’s not such a big deal, you might think. I just want to be skinny, not muscular, so I don’t care if I lose muscle or not. Oh, trust me: you will care when you have lost a lot of weight and are left with a soft and jiggly skinny body. And don’t think that lifting weights or doing too many push-ups will give you big man-muscles. It won’t. Remember the celebrities I mentioned before? They’ve got muscle, and none of them look manly in any way. The only way you are getting muscles that big is if you weight train for years (or take steroids—and those will make you sound like a man too!).
