“I’m feeling very unloved with how I haven’t heard from you since you went on that lil two-day—”

“Not so loud!”

Hushing Dionne, I grabbed a hold of her arm, pulled her over to the side, and glanced over my shoulder.

“Why you acting like the Feds are after you?” she laughed.

I gave her a little chuckle, but what I was going through felt exactly like that. “Aidan has literally been up my ass since I went back home after my little getaway with Nazari.”

“Is that why he’s been picking Rhea up all week?”

“Yes! He drags me along if I don’t have to work and tells me to sit tight in the car.”

“And you listen?” Dionne frowned.

“It’s not about listening. I’m trying to buy time until I can figure out my next move. I haven’t even told you the half: when I was out with Nazari, some cops pulled us over. One took Nazari out of the car and the other handed me a phone.”

“What?”

“Girl,” I smacked, making sure not to be too loud since we were in the school. Thankfully, Aidan had to run into work for an emergency and couldn’t tag along to get Rhea.

“Tell me why it was Aidan on the phone cursing me out, yelling about how he knew I was cheating and that if I wasn’t home by the time he got there on Sunday, he was going to take Rhea from me.”

“Get the hell out of here.” Her focus darted to Rhea, who was at the opposite of end of the classroom playing with Cree. They were the last two kids in the class so, instead of grabbing Rhea to leave, I let her chill until Cree was picked up.

“Yup. He straight blacked on me. Then, when he finally made it home, he had no words. Said absolutely nothing then acted like everything was all good the next morning.”

“You sure his momma never had him checked? He seem a little throwed off.”

“If she did, I wouldn’t know and I don’t care. I have other things to worry about.”

My eyes lingered over to Cree and my heart swelled. The little boy reminded me so much of Nazari, especially with how he treated Rhea. In the few minutes that I’d been here, I was able to see just how protective Cree was when it came to Rhea. I didn’t know if it was a conscious thing or not seeing how Cree was so young but, whenever Rhea moved around the classroom, Cree moved. If she tried to grab something and struggled, then Cree made sure he got whatever Rhea wanted. It was cute, too damn cute.

“Mhmm,” Dionne smirked. “So, what’s the verdict with Nazari?”

The thought of Nazari alone was enough to make me blush. So, to hear his name, my nerves tickled with excitement.

“Ohhh bit… I almost forgot we’re in a school setting. Heffa, don’t tell me you done went and fell in love after two days with the man.”

“It’s not love. I like him though. I like how he handles me.
