“DADDY!” Nyla shouted when her father walked in. Today was Thanksgiving and like always, we were at his parents’ house. My mom and dad were here, along with a ton of his family members from all over; including Moony, Shady and Sunshine.

“How’s my girl?”

“I’m fine. When can we come home?”

“When mommy feels like daddy learned his lesson.” I rolled my eyes.

“Is it because of that heffa I heard abuela talking about because my cousin Shady said she’ll beat her up so you and mommy can be together again.” I shook my head.

“First off, watch your mouth little girl.” She put her head down.

“What your mom and I go through has nothing to do with you.”

“But I wanna be in my own bed.” Nyla started getting upset, which upset me.

“Let’s take a walk.” His cousin Sunshine led me out the back door. We took a stroll down the small walkway leading to a pond. They had it built for Nyla. It has two benches and small fish in it that she could feed. Spoiled doesn’t even explain Nyla because she’s beyond that.

“How are you?” She pointed to the bench. I took a seat.

“Ok considering my husband is a lying, cheating bastard who refuses to give me a divorce. Oh, but we can be separated.” Sunshine busted out laughing.

“I just don’t understand what I’m doing or did wrong to make him search elsewhere.” I felt the tears forming.

“I’ve never been married before Asher, but I do know when Yosef cheated on me the first time, I shut down. I didn’t want to speak to anyone and nothing he did could make me take him back. Sadly, he charmed his way into my life again and it happened over and over.” I looked at her. You could tell she still held some sort of feeling for him.

“I tried everything to please him and he continued to cheat. When I had enough, I left him alone but not because one of those women made me. It was because I lost myself in him and I had to get my life back, along with the things he did to my sister.”

“I’m trying but he won’t let me go.” She turned and took my hand in hers.

“That’s because you’re his wife Slim. Not some bitch off the street who he can toss around to his niggas. You’re his heart, his backbone, his rock, the mother of his child and the only woman who let him know you won’t tolerate his shit.”

“Huh?”

“Don’t tell him I told you, but my aunt said, he took the Destiny bitch to the abortion clinic to terminate the child and afterwards, had her beat up really bad for harassing you.” I was shocked because no one told me. All this time, I assumed he was catering to her.

“Hey y’all.” Moony walked out with her daughter.

“You ok? Rahsaan told me what happened.” She sat down.

“I’m ok.”

“Look. I’m not telling you to take him back but if you do…” Moony glanced around before speaking.

“Not only should you make him work for you.
