“Grand rising friend!” Mesha sang, busting in my room gliding like an ice skater.

It was evident she got some dick last night, and the fact that I didn’t had me hating on my best friend. I had never been afraid to make the first move when it came to men. “We didn’t have sex.”

“Why not?”

“He didn’t want to.” My shoulders hunched, giving her my interpretation of last night’s events.

“Did he say that?”

“No, he said a bunch of bullshit that sounded like excuses.”

“So what did he say because we both know how dramatic you can be.”

“I am not the dramatic one in this relationship. That’s you.”

“Focus, Kylar. What did he say?”

I replayed the painful events of last night and Dame’s cryptic excuses for why he couldn’t fuck me. True enough, that would put him in the middle of Jabari and me, but I was a big girl.

“He’s more worried about Jabari instead of getting some pussy. That’s the last nigga I need in my bed anyway. That shit might rub off on me.” I shivered at the thought alone.

“You sure your new daddy isn’t a kingpin?”

“What?”

“Think about it. Why else would a man like Dame be so adamant about not fuckin’ you? Your mom even told your dad he was a dangerous man. They sent your mother undercover to investigate his family. I’ve watched enough TV to know they only do that for heavy hitters. It’s the only thing that makes sense if you ask me.”

“Could be; nothing would surprise me at this point. Anyway, tell me about your night.” I insisted on shifting gears to something a lot less embarrassing.

“Baby!” Mesha dramatically grabbed my arm. “His dick and my pussy made magic together. Shit got me re-evaluating my life. Maybe I need to move here.”

“Girl, you are not moving anywhere.”

“I know, I’d miss my crazy ass family too much, but I’ll be back to visit. Especially now that your kingpin daddy has a plane.”

“Good because I miss you.”

“Mom’s been worried about you,” Mesha announced, scooting down enough to rest her head on my shoulder.

“I know. She sends me motivational quotes every day.”

“Girl, she gets on my nerves with that shit! She better be lucky she’s my mom. Otherwise, I’d block her ass.”

“Well, I appreciate it.”

“I’ll have her forward mine to you.”

“I have to get up and make sure everything is good for tonight. Since I’m the bestest friend a girl could ask for, you have a spa appointment downstairs while I work.”

“You didn’t have to do that, boo.”
