Iris pressed the call button on her steering wheel and waited impatiently for Melissa to pick up.

“Well, look who’s alive,” Melissa said, in lieu of a greeting.

“Don’t start with me, girl. Besides, I’m too excited, not even you can throw me off.”

“Do tell,” Melissa replied anxiously.

Iris maneuvered her car into the left lane and merged onto the 405. “Last night following the premier and the after parties associated with it, Vincent insisted I stay at his house. My plan was to pick up my car and head home but he wouldn’t hear of it. His house is amazing, but that’s another story entirely.”

“Push pause,” Melissa interjected. “You spent the night with him?”

“It’s not like it’s the first time. Anyway, like I was saying…”

Melissa made a screeching sound emulating a car putting on breaks. “How did you think you were gonna fast forward past all of those juicy details. I knew it. When we went to the spa and you were in there glowing and stuff. I knew that man had swept your chimney.”

“Melissa, will you please focus. What I have to tell you is big.” Iris was becoming irritated with her friend’s constant interruptions.

When we got to the flower garden, I mentioned how I wanted to give Christian an outside wedding before he ran off and eloped in Tennessee. Long story short, he suggested I give Christian and Shelby a reception and invite our friends and family as well as hers. But that’s not the best part.”

“Is he paying for it?” Melissa asked.

Disregarding Melissa’s last statement, Iris continued. “He offered to let us use his property for the reception. When I tell you it is more elaborate than any venue I could have selected in all of Los Angeles County, I am not exaggerating.”

“Wow, you must have put it on that brother.”

“Seriously, Melissa. Do you ever think of anything else?” Iris exited the freeway.

“Girl, it’s not often that someone finds new love at our age. We have passed the half century mark. I’m enjoying this. What did you say?”

“I told him I would have to talk it over with Christian and Shelby first and if they are in agreement I would gladly accept his offer. I’m headed to their house now. Hopefully, they’re home.”

“Don’t tell me you drove all the way over there without calling.”

“I sure did.” Iris pulled into their driveway and parked. “I’m here now. I’ll call you back and let you know how it goes.” She turned the car off and tossed the keys inside her purse.

“I’ll be waiting to hear. Talk to you later.”

“Okay, bye.”

Iris tucked her purse under her right arm and stepped out of the vehicle. She approached the front door and rang the doorbell. When
