CHAPTER TWENTY
Brennan
I held onto my control, by a thread, but it was holding. The only thing I knew was that this woman needed me more than Iâd thought. I guess I actually knew two things. I also knew that I couldnât stay here much longer. I had to get home to relieve Aoife. Claireâs grandmother was a woman of great patience, but she was also a woman who loved to sleep. She would never stay the night, no matter how convincing I tried to be. She figured she just lived across the street, and why not sleep in her own bed every night? So, I now had two dilemmas that totally contradicted each other.
How would I stop myself from trying to move this kiss to the next level, and how could I pry myself away from Samantha when she had just bared her soul to me. It was exactly the reason I had been avoiding relationships. It was way too complicated for me to offer any more than just sex. With just sex, I could be in and out, literally. Whatever was happening here was way more than that. Shit, we hadnât even had sex. I didnât often go the friend route before sex, but it looked like this girl was going to turn my world upside down.
I broke our kiss off with near Herculean strength, wrapping my arms around her and tucking her in tight to my chest.
âSamantha?â
She yawned and burrowed in deeper. She was not helping me stay on task. âSam?â
âYeah?â Her voice was rough and sleepy. This wasnât going to be easy.
âThis kills me to say, butââ
âYou gotta go.â
âYeah, I do.â
She heaved a heavy sigh and rolled onto her back, flinging her arms out to the side. She lay there, eyes closed, breathing even.
âIâm sorry. Itâs just that I canât leave her much longer with her grandmother. We kind of have an agreement.â She finally rolled back towards me and opened her eyes. âThere she is.â
She smiled and I could see her coming back to me.
âBrennan?â
âYeah?â
âWhat are we going to do now?â
I reached out and tucked a stray hair behind her ear. I left my hand there, moving it in behind her neck and pulling her back towards me. I leaned down and answered her with my mouth. This time if this was all I was going to get, I wasnât holding back. She had to know that I wasnât sure where we were going or what we were doing, or even if we should be doing it, but I wasnât much into caring. I coaxed her lips apart and drove my tongue inside. She responded with a soft groan and I struggled to keep from shifting her under me and taking what I needed. Instead, I broke the kiss once again and rested my forehead against hers.
âI donât know what weâre going to do now, but letâs just try to take it day by day.â
She looked up at me and I was a goner. I wasnât
