Afternoon meetings, on the other hand, especially those that promote connections within a team, provide exactly the energy injection we need during our afternoon troughs. This is especially true for the extroverts on your team; they will get an energy boost from meeting with others.
Personally, I aim to book my meetings in the afternoon. Yes, I still have some morning meetings, but I do my best to push those meeting as late in the morning as possible. My ideal routine protects my morning hours so that I can use that blissful morning energy to focus on my core priorities. Admittedly, I do have a high level of control over my schedule as a business owner. But I still need to coordinate schedules with many others. If you think you canât shift your meeting times, I encourage you to test this belief.
No doubt, youâll find that exceptions are warranted, too. If the only time that works for everyone else is 9:00 a.m., you can make an exception. But if your executive team meets every Wednesday at precisely 9:00 a.m., I suggest you exert your excellent persuasion skills to help them recognize the merits of protected mornings. Be a role model and help guide them toward making the most of their fresh morning energy as well.
You may also want to make an exception to the no-early-morning-meeting rule if youâre trying to get a favourable response from someone else. In this case, book a meeting during the first part of their workday. If you meet during their prime time, youâre more likely to get the answer you want. But in practically every other case, bump your meetings. You make the most of your prime energy when you protect your mornings for your core priorities.
