Spencer touched the rock and the stone sealing Starâs home moved. Iâd seen Sheila and Alec do that, but they had been visiting Star regularly. âWait, how did you know how to do that?â I looked over at Star. âDid you teach him that?â
âNope, as far as I know, heâs the first to figure it out on his own. I taught Alec and Sheila when we started working together,â she said.
âWell? How did you figure it out? And how did you find us in the first place?â They were probably questions I should have asked before, but they wouldnât have changed anything. Plus, Iâd been distracted by Alecâs injuries, my mating bond, and the fact that my father was a royal. My mind had been a little preoccupied.
âI made a lot of friends with witches while I was living with the vampires. There wasnât much to do, so I learned as much as I could. See this little mark here?â Spencer pointed to a divit in the stone that could have been anything. âThe key to get in isnât all that well hidden if you know what youâre looking for.â
âThat just looks like a dent in the rock,â Malcom said.
âItâs too smooth and itâs a near perfect fit for an index finger.â Spencer walked through the entrance. Malcom and I followed. Once we were through, the rock rolled back into place.
âAnd here I thought I was clever. You better win this thing since my secret is out. I canât live here anymore,â Star said.
âThat doesnât explain how you found us,â Malcom said.
âThat should be obvious,â Spencer said. âWeâre connected. I was in wolf form most of the time once I broke out. I felt you both any time you shifted. Though, I have to admit, I thought it was just one of you. The fact that you were together helped.â
âI told you your magic wore off,â I said to Malcom.
âDoesnât matter much now, does it?â he replied.
âGood point,â I agreed.
âI thought I felt some lingering spells on you,â Star said. âI guess dabbling in magic runs in the family.â
âI learned my lesson,â I said.
We walked out of the cave into the woods. A chill ran down my spine as I recalled how badly things went last time Iâd ventured out here. In the end, I was free of the mating bond. But getting there wasnât easy.
âWe just going to walk all the way to⦠wait, I have no idea where this house even is,â Malcom said.
âEugene,â Spencer said. âOur family has properties all over the world, but he seems to like it there.â
âThatâs close, right?â I was still a little fuzzy on where I was geographically. Another thing to add to my list for when this was all over. I was going to spend some serious time with a map to orient myself to the world.
âWeâll be there in about four hours,â Spencer said. âItâs the only reason we can pull this off in time.â
âI guess itâs good he likes it out here,â I said.
