Siobhan

I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, hating what I saw. My feet were cut and bleeding. I’d forgotten my boots. My arms and legs were bruised from being shoved around in the crowd like a pinball. Those things would heal, eventually.

I held up a damp lock. My hair needed a change. I’d grown sick of the purple. Poison green with a red stripe maybe. Or was that too Christmasy? It didn’t matter. I didn’t have the supplies to do anything about my hair, other than clip it back. And I was hungry and in desperate need of comfort food. And wine. A freaking vineyard of it.

Swathing myself in a towel, I emerged from the bathroom and jerked to a halt when I spotted Sebastian sitting on the edge of his bed. He rose when he saw me and moved to the door. “Siobhan.”

I couldn’t look him in the eye. Not after what I’d done. Instead, I scurried into my bedroom and shut the door. There was no lock, so I moved the waist-high bookcase in front of the door. I didn’t think Sebastian would try to force his way in after me but I wasn’t taking any chances.

A knock sounded followed by his lyrical voice. “Siobhan? We must speak.”

My eyes slid shut. The voice was exactly the same as Owen’s. He was the same, just as I was.

“Go away.” I backed up until my knees hit the mattress.

“You granted me sanctuary, remember?”

That seemed like a lifetime ago. A hysterical laugh bubbled up at the thought but I shoved it back down. I rooted through my closet looking for the least sexy garments I owned. Ragged gray sweats and an oversized black t-shirt with the image of a big copper-bottom pot that said Kiss My Grits.

Another knock. Firmer this time. “Siobhan, please. Tell me what’s wrong.”

Dressed, I glanced around the room. There was nothing to eat. My stomach growled. Besides, the wine was downstairs. Past the dark fae I couldn’t look in the eye. I reached for my phone to text Alys to bring it up to me when I saw there was a message from her already.

Alys: Taking Maeve home and going to visit Brock. TALK to him.
