10.5.4 Sensor Measurements and Performance

The mobile device includes sensors for measuring the acceleration, rotation about the vertical axis, and two magnetometers which can be used as a compass. One purpose of these sensors is to provide positional data (using “dead reckoning” techniques) when the radiolocation system is inaccurate. However, the results reported in this section relate to additional useful information associated with horse racing. These include:Determining whether the mobile is moving or stationary, so that the Kalman filtering dynamics can be altered accordingly.
