Chapter 9
I didn’t pick out anything too posh for the hotel room I would stay at; just something I could crash in without worrying about being kidnapped by roaches. Sure, I’ve stayed in those kinds of places, but I was happy I didn’t have to anymore. It’s hard to relax when there are drug deals going on outside your door.
I unpacked my crap and got it all put away, trying not to think of Corey or his look of betrayal when I had told him I was coming here. I had to do this for myself, and he would just have to understand. Besides, he had Travis now. I was pretty sure he would barely notice I was gone.
After picking up some pizzas for my guys, I headed off to their place. It was a way to break the ice, and it would also help them focus if their stomachs were full. The term “starving artist” is thrown around a lot in our world, but it’s a harsh reality for some of us. Every cent they could spare and more was being poured into studio time, or so they had told me when asked about their finances.
The place was sweltering when I arrived, in spite having all the windows open. The boys were all in shorts and shirtless, which was nice. Hugo was the best built of all of them, and he had tats everywhere. Nate looked like a scarecrow, but his expression was more alert this time around. He was sitting behind his drum set, fussing with one of the cymbals.
Tyler bounded into the room wearing only some red briefs, which was really damn cute, as were the immediate shouts at him to go find some shorts. He huffed and protested about the heat and then sulkily went off to find something to wear, taking a slice with him.
He had a nice ass, I noticed, and I could notice safely as long as I kept my hands off.
Julian grinned at my noticing and helped me unload the pizzas. “I thought you’d like him,” he said under his breath. “Just be gentle with him, huh?”
I shook my head. “I like my men legal,” I told him. It was cute, though, that he was trying to set me up with someone.
Julian shrugged. “He’s almost ready to come out of the oven. He’s already crispy around the edges,” he commented.
I arched an eyebrow, confused by that. “And why are you noticing that?”
“We can discuss that later,” he said, making room for the band as they descended on the food like a pack of ravenous wolves.
Julian’s words confused the crap out of me, but I didn’t really have time to mull them over. I was being bombarded with questions from everyone at once about what it was like to tour, how it felt to be on stage in front of a big crowd, when we were going to the studio and a whole lot else. I tried to field as many of the questions as I could, but I hardly got done with one answer when I was hit with another one.
