CHAPTER FIVE

In the dim lights of the club Syra could almost imagine it was just the two of them alone together. His body molded into hers, no space separated them as they danced shamelessly to the beats the DJ spun. She couldn’t remember what number song they were on, but they hadn’t stopped moving since she led him to the dance floor, and whatever exhaustion Syra had felt earlier had long disappeared. She felt exhilarated under Marco’s touch. His sure hands resting on her hips and her stomach—held her with a possession she missed and craved to be under again.

If she kept her eyes closed, she could pretend she was back in her mid-twenties, the thrill of their relationship new and exciting. She would grab the hand that rested on her thigh as she grinded her ass into his pelvis. She would push it up in between her legs, daring him to touch her in the crowded club. She’d been adventurous in her youth, always pushing Marco to play in a room full of people—to see if he could make her come undone without anyone noticing.

That time in her life had been the best. It was something she had subconsciously tried to relive through her art when she thought about the paintings she’d done for Raven and the clients Raven introduced her too. It had been her way to hold on to the life she lived in Lockwood with Marco—the life she foolishly hung out to dry because she thought she had to as she got older.

Syra stumbled, her eyes opening as she took in the crowd and they sly smiles from Delilah and Katrina. The women had been surprised when she dragged Marco on to the dance floor, but their surprise had turned into wicked grins and mischievous winks when they got a good look at him.

The song switched up again, and Syra started to pull away when the beat turned slower—a little more provocative. She didn’t make it far before Marco had her turned around to face him. He wedged his thigh between her legs, and she gasped, becoming very aware that she had to forgo underwear for the short skirt she wore.

Syra felt exposed, her breath caught in her throat when Marco moved his thigh back and forth, causing a delicious ache to build in her body. She was aware that the skirt was riding up on her thighs. The extra weight she’d put on through the years had settled in her thighs, ass, and hips, making the skirt almost indecent. Any movement caused it to rise, and she had to keep pulling it down when she had her back toward Marco, but now that he was in between her legs—making her ride his thigh, and causing her legs to spread further apart, she could feel the skirt sitting dangerously close to showing her ass. She reached for the bottom of the skirt, desperate to pull it down, but Marco’s hands were there stopping her.
