Chapter 16

Bria Robinson

“Why didn’t you tell me I had a visitor? The nigga just walked into my office. You gon’ kill a bitch,” Eva rounded the corner at the law firm and snapped at me.

I’d literally just sat back in my chair at the receptionist's desk after using the restroom. I’d been holding my pee for the past couple of hours because I had been doing so many things for Ms. Alecia, along with fulfilling my other job requirements, that I didn’t get a moment to use the restroom. Eva was such a damn bitch, though, and for years, I had been biting my tongue with her. She talked to me like she was my boss, and I was her damn assistant, and I hated that shit. I felt like her tone with me had gotten much worse ever since the cat was let out of the bag that Pee-Wee and I were in a relationship. He was truthful about messing around with her in the past, and ugh, sometimes I just wished I could scratch his eyes out of his face because I got so annoyed about the women he had dealings with before me.

“Eva, I was in the restroom. I literally just got back out front. Nobody came up here and told me they needed to see you. I also put the sign up, stating that I’d walked away and I would be back,” I shot at her, hitting the mouse on the desktop in front of me because it had gone to sleep.

“I guess, girl,” she sassed, rolling her eyes extra hard at me.

I laughed and turned in my chair to look at her. “Eva, it’s not that serious. If your visitor took it upon themself to go to your office without waiting for me to come back and announce them, then be mad at them, not me! Damn!” I snapped because, just that fast, her ass was getting on my nerves.

Eva had no argument with me, so she laughed it off and walked away, going back to her office. This had nothing to do with someone walking to her office unannounced. This had everything to do with me dealing with someone whose dick she probably still dreamt about. So, for that, she hated my damn guts. I waved her off and then handled some of the paperwork in front of me.

After about an hour, there was a voice in my head telling me to log onto the Supreme Court website to see if the bar scores had been posted. It had been almost two months since I took the bar exam, and I had literally been checking every single day, waiting for the scores to be posted, but they hadn’t yet. I logged on, and my body froze for a second. Then I jumped up from my chair because they were up! The results were up, and suddenly, my hands were shaking. I was nervous, and all the confidence I had before about passing the bar had gone out of the window.
