When Amiah walked into her mother’s hospital room, it was cold and dark. She had already spoken with a doctor in the hallway, and he told her that they had put her mother on life support, but there was nothing they could really do for her. Linda looked so at peace, but it only made Amiah break down. Her and her mother had been fighting this battle for years, and her mother finally let go. It crushed Amiah to the core. How was she going to go on without her mother?

Linda was her real friend and the only one she could get good advice from. Ever since she came out of her mother’s womb, they were inseparable. Her mother was the reason she stayed in school and did the right thing.

“Mommy, I’m going to miss you so much. You fought a good fight. I hate that this had to happen to us. Now, what am I supposed to do?” Amiah cried out. She was sobbing and could hardly catch her breath from anxiety and the panic attacks she was having. She started breathing in and out. She was a little light-headed, so she sat in the chair next to her mother’s bed to try and calm down. She had no one there to comfort her and tell her it would be okay.

She wished she had brought Oxy, because she knew he was the only one that cared about her feelings. She also wished she had Bayley. The falling out they had was pointless, and she knew Bayley wouldn’t answer any of her calls. Therefore, she called on God. She closed her eyes and started praying for strength and guidance. She knew, if anything, God would come through. He had saved her mother all of these years, so she knew he would be there for her.

“Dear, God… As my mother goes on her journey to heaven, please be with me, Lord, and guide me to the right path in my life. I know the Devil will try and make me fall, so I ask that you cover me with the blood of Jesus while I’m left out here alone. Amen.”

When Amiah lifted her head, she saw Coby standing over her. She looked up at him with glossy eyes. He put his hand on her shoulder to comfort her, but she quickly moved his hand.

“Don’t fucking touch me. You are the reason I had to come here alone. I can’t even bring my boyfriend here because you want to act like some bully. I want you to stay away from me, and if you don’t, I will tell him to pop your ass, and I mean it!” Amiah shouted with so much anger. Coby smirked. He had never heard his sister raise her voice or impose a threat. However, he wasn’t scared at all.

“Our mother just died, now you want me dead? You need me, Miah, more than you think.”

Amiah stood up from her seat.

“I don’t need you, Coby. I never did, and I never will.
