I watched Syn’s eyebrows lift as she glanced at my bag. “You crazy if you think I’ma leave you here. That nigga just better be glad it was daytime. Next time he won’t be so lucky.”

“Where is he?”

“Sitting in the driver’s seat of his car. Soon as he come to, he can drive his punk-ass home. If not, I’ll handle his ass once and for all.”

“He’s still out?”

“He may have gotten fucked up again.”

She shook her head slowly as she rolled her eyes. Storm had worked that nigga over real good, but the minute he woke up, I put part two on his ass. Afterward, I called Philly to get Bunkers’s phone number. He was the nigga that cleaned shit up for us. I needed Reggie gone like yesterday. However, maybe him showing up here today was a blessing in disguise. Syn finally called me back. In her moment of fear and anxiety, I was the one she thought about to make it better. “Where’s my baby?”

“She’s in my bedroom watching TV.”

I dropped my bag to the floor and yanked Syn to me by her waist and kissed those pretty lips. “It took you being scared to call a nigga back?”

“I’d planned to call you anyway. The phone was in my hand when this fool showed up ringing my doorbell.

“Uh huh. If you say so.”

She pushed me and made her way to the front to talk to her mama, while I went inside the room to check on my baby. Tomorrow, I had to appear in court, and Malia had to talk to the judge in his chambers. Hopefully that caseworker, Andrea, wouldn’t be able to sway him one way or the other. I didn’t think about that shit at the time. All I could concentrate on was digging her insides out. But now, she could very well say I was unfit as well. That shit would kill me.

When I walked in the room, Malia was sitting there flipping channels with her legs crossed like she belonged here. “Girl, what’chu doing?”

“Trying to find Doc McStuffins. I can’t find her on this TV.”

“Yeah, she has satellite TV. Let me see what I can find, baby girl.”

“Are we staying here tonight?”

“Yeah. Is that cool with you?”

She nodded with a smile. “She’s nice. What’s her name again?”

“Synthia, but everyone calls her Syn. You can call her Ms. Syn.”

“Okay. She’s pretty. Is she your girlfriend?”

“Naw. You think she ought to be?”

She nodded with a smile, then squealed when I came across Doc McStuffins on Syn’s TV. Conversation was now over, because she wouldn’t hear a word I said now that her show was on. She reminded me of Cici when she got caught up in those damn soap operas. Victor Newman had more pull than anybody. If you interrupted her while she was watching his ass, you had better be dying. I chuckled as I thought about my mama while watching my baby girl. She was like her in a lot of ways already.

Leaving the room, I headed to the front to see Storm and Vida leaving.
