Chapter 18
“THE SECRET OF EFFECTIVE PRAYER”
Poet and mystic Tennyson: “More things are wrought by prayer than this world d reams of.”
Prayer is a way of communing with the Divine, the Creative Healing Presence within. The secret of effective prayer is in the mind and heart of every one of us. It is probable, though, we all have had occasion to ask: “Why are some of my prayers answered—so apparently effortlessly—others seemingly are not?”
There is no secret to this, in the sense of an insolvable mystery—the secret of effective prayer is within-in Christian—scriptures, New Testament, “The inner chamber”; in Jewish scriptures, Old Testament, “the secret place of the most high.”
The inner chamber, the secret place of most high, represent the Creative minds Principle, functioning in and through every person who walks the earth: our consciousness awareness of the mental and spiritual laws and the way of Infinite Spirit within.
In considering prayer as a concept, and its historical development into the present day four foundational formulas (or formula) of prayer—we respect all forms of prayer, worship, and religion.
Whether the Judeo-Christian Bible is considered literally is an individual matter—admittedly, though, ours is a non-literal, non-liturgical, non-orthodox, non-traditional interpretation of the highly specialized language employed in all scriptures, every formalized religion.
Hidden (or secret) within the literal words and terms are additional truths to help and assist us in our everyday lives. We consider that Religion is our everyday relationship to Life: Infinite, Divine: God. Prayer is a way of establishing our Unity with, and of finding our ideal place in Life.
Any practice, which accomplishes this, we respect as good, and very good: and effective. Our purpose is not to offend anyone’s belief, rather to inform and to offer new perceptions and views.
We will all agree, I believe, that Prayers are offered in an infinite variety- there are as many methods and manners of prayer as there are individuals who pray—most of these prayers are very beautiful, and soul-stirring; all of them reverent and sincere.
Prayers are answered in accordance to the way we think, feel, and believe in our innermost being: the Biblical heart from ancient Chaldean word, signifying the deeper, subjective, or subconscious mind: as in Hebrew scriptures (Old testament) Book of Proverbs: “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Not only in the intellect, but the deep-seated feeling nature.
(In word’s scriptures, holy books, man = mind, the measurer—does not refer to gender, generic, inclusive terms, indicating individual mind, male and female.)
In the New Testament Book of James: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man (mind) availed much. (J. B. Phillips” translation: “Tremendous power is made available”).
“Righteous,” Biblically = “right use” of our wonderfully powerful and creative faculties: thought and emotion “mind and heart” “freely given to everyone.” Constructively directed, knowingly and habitually, (faithfully), new conditions, circumstances, relationships are brought forth from within-automatically and surely—and are expressed in every facet and function of our experience.
Dr. Joseph Murphy stated over and again: “There are many kinds, manners, methods, and rituals of prayer, but there are only two ways to pray: the right way, and the wrong way.
