This man was the epitome of dash and classic military flamboyance. Thousands of young Southern men longed to serve in J.E.B. Stuartâs cavalry units, as he was known for his strategic acumen and daring tactics. Following Stonewall Jacksonâs wounding, Lee temporarily placed Stuart in command of Jacksonâs troops.
A few days after his crowning achievement, Gen. Thomas Jackson lay dying in this small house at Guinea Station, Virginia. On his death bed, Jackson was said to have been at peace and quoted scripture in his last hours. He mourned his separation in death from his wife, but he remained optimistic of a future after his departure.
