Chloe’s Journal

January 15, 2007

Awful, stupid, worst day ever. I'm so tired of Stacy and her evil glares. At least she's not trying to shove me into lockers anymore, but in other ways, she's worse. Stacy is one of those girls that if you give an inch, she'll take a mile. Since the twins never completely cut ties with her, she's been finding ways to torture me that don't cross some invisible boundary she's made up in her head.

The leftover scar on my scalp has become a distraction from my worked-up nerves. I realized today that I touch it every time I'm nervous. Today, Stacy saw me and announced to the entire class that I was scratching dandruff and that I'm contagious. I don't know if she's dumb or stupid. First, I do not have dandruff. Second, dandruff isn't something you catch. Nevertheless, everyone laughed, including Devon. He seemed to have gotten the biggest laugh out of everyone. That one really hurt. Sometimes I think Devon's just as bad as Stacy. If it weren't for Gavin, Devon would be just like her. That's a scary thought, and it makes me wonder what makes a person choose to have people fear them rather than like them.

It's frustrating that Gavin sees Devon as someone who just needs a constant nudge in the right direction. What will happen when we're out of school and the twins aren't living under the same roof anymore? Gavin won't always be there to protect his brother. Devon will have to start making decisions on his own. One day Gavin is going to realize he's an enabler because Devon will no longer have a safety net when he goes too far.
