The Female Predator

Research involving women in prison has found that, like their male counterparts, they are callous, antisocial, and aggressive.2 Although they score high on tests that measure psychopathy, they differ from male predators. Female psychopaths are not as violent and don’t have as high rates of criminal behavior. And they process emotions differently, reacting more to threats, showing more emotion, and better controlling their behavior. A possible explanation is that research comparing brain volume of male and female psychopaths finds that men have larger volume deficits in their frontal gray matter. This may underlie their more violent, cold behavior.
