ADDING POCKETS

1. Baste the finished breast pocket or pockets to the shirt and try the shirt on for positioning.

2. If the pocket is so high that it comes close to the tip of the collar and is uncomfortable to reach, reposition it on the shirt.

3. Sew the pocket to the shirt; press.

ADDING THE FINISHING TOUCHES

1. Try on the shirt and mark its length.

2. Hem and press.

FLAT FELLED SEAMS

The same seam easily recognized on a pair of jeans is also used on the classic shirt: the flat felled seam. This seam is made by placing the raw edge of one side of the seam inside the folded edge of the other, then stitching down, usually with a double row of topstitching.
