3: Style & Substance

Your videos must have substance (something of value to give the viewer in exchange for their time). If you’re a gamer or vlogger, you still must offer value in your videos or viewers will not stick around. You need to be able to tell a story and to entertain. Nearly anything can be made into a story, a daily vlog, a training tutorial, a gaming segment, or perhaps even a twenty-second clip of you just stuck in traffic.

Engaging stories offer substance, just as a great tutorial, one that doesn’t tell the viewer what to do, but shows them how to do it. Combine engagement and substance and you’ll win.

Hooking the viewer early is the first step, one that many YouTubers never figure out how to do. Next, the goal becomes adding value by delivering substance. Let’s dive into how to add value in a unique way.
