I wasn’t surprised that such details were obscured in the original display, for my expectation of data displays constructed for broad consumption was not high. Hence when I was told of a graph in an article in the New York Times Sunday Magazine about the topics that American clergy choose to speak out on, I anticipated the worst. My imagination created, floating before my eyes, a pie chart displaying such data (Figure 9.3). My imagination can only stretch so far, hence the pie I saw had only two dimensions, and the categories were ordered by size.
