That’s a lot of muscles for one ear. But they come in pretty handy.

Cats have 32 ear muscles, which allow them to swivel and rotate to pinpoint the source of a noise. And that’s not all, they can also move each ear independently and rotate them 180 degrees. Your feline friend can also hear higher and lower frequencies than humans (and dogs), which helps them find their prey. What you probably don’t realise is that your cat also uses its ears to communicate with other cats and with you.

If you have a pet cat, go take a look at their ears. If they are pointing up and facing forwards, then your cat is happy and wants to be stroked. If they are laying down, then keep your hands to yourself, unless you want to be bitten.
