Chapter 15

I’m anxious as I get ready for bed that night. We all decided to be together just in case something went wrong. As I lay down, Val crawls in behind me, Levi takes my front side becoming the little spoon, and Anu lays across my legs using them like a pillow. Everyone is tense and silent, we have absolutely no idea about what could go wrong or if the Angels will catch me. I can’t let any of that stop me. That bitch stole what was mine and I fully intend to get it back.

After hours of being restless with thoughts of my parents and their horrible deaths racing through my mind, I finally drift off after hours of silently crying. Thankful for the reprieve from my depression, I hold the image of my mate’s amulet piece locked firmly in my mind. The feeling of dream walking is surreal, like my spirit leaving my body. I feel tangible though, which is great because what good would a spirit do at grabbing my charm?

I’m in a field just outside of a seemingly empty warehouse. I wearily make my way toward the innocuous building on quiet feet. At least my dream self is dressed for stealth, I think to myself as I look down and see that I’m wearing all black nondescript clothing, I am so ready to kick ass ninja-burglar style!

As I make it to the entrance, I hear a few voices, but they seem to be going in the opposite direction. I tip toe up to the large metal door and test the handle, finding it unlocked, I quietly ease it open, hoping the hinges are well oiled. As I enter the warehouse, it’s hauntingly quiet, dark, and devoid of people or Angels. Am I in the right place? I question as I wander around, then it dawns on me, I need to think about Vlad’s amulet! As I get back to the task at hand, I focus solely on my monster’s charmed piece, wondering what significance it has to him. I feel a tug and follow it down a long dimly lit corridor, ending in a lone door. She has to be in here! I just know it. I throw open the door. Barging in like a bull in a china shop, I did not expect to see what I had found.

Anca is beaten and battered, lying on a makeshift bed of straw, a small blanket, and a bumpy pillow on the floor. She’s looking like she hasn’t been properly fed or cared for in days, possibly weeks. The room reeks of urine, sweat, and feces. How could these ‘Holy’ beings be so cruel? I’m betting this witch was not expecting the tables to turn on her like this when she betrayed Vlad to try to save herself. Sure, she’s a bitch for playing Vlad and deserves some repercussions for her actions… and yet, this—- this is just too much. I try to be firm with my feelings,
