CHAPTER 25

Alexandros’s POV

It was told that in Ancient Greece, the Greeks were perused by the gods disguised as animals. But I’ve learnt that an animal will always look away when you stare at it, dropping its eyes first, because it is believed that humans are the top of the food chain. But if it were a god in disguise, it will keep eye contact with you.

Gods were very fond of doing this, but this doesn’t happen anymore—that we know of. Ladies and gents, be careful.

Even the demigods in Ancient Greece looked different from how we do now. Back then, it was easier to figure out who was a demigod and who was a mere mortal.

We demigods have gold blood, ichor running through our veins, or some like to say, ‘the golden blood of the gods.’ But not in color, in essence. It used to affect our appearance; the Ancient Greek demigods looked disbelieving, with their golden hair, skin, and eyes that practically glowed. This was also a plus side for the gods, so that they did not start a war by accidentally killing the child of another god.

But now only a rare few of us may have those aspects. With the majority of the mortals no longer believing in the gods, we had to adapt, begin to look like them, making it incredibly difficult to stand out.

I had known Anastasia, Jake, and Theo from the sanctuary. I never really spoke to them. I kept to myself. But the first time I met Iris was at Mount Olympus. Where had the gods been hiding her?

When I walked into the throne room, my whole world slowed down. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. With her Greek looks, tall frame, and high cheek bones, how can one not be mesmerised by her beauty? Her cheeks, the color of pink roses, and long eyelashes that frame her chocolate brown eyes. Her muscle definition was perfect, and she stood there with confidence. She was the kind of girl that women loved to hate. I knew from then that she was the girl who would change the way I looked at life.

The bus pulls in at Richmond, we make our way off the bus.

‘The Olympian car hire is just up ahead,’ mentions Jake, his eyes never leaving his smartphone.

‘Can we get food first? I’m hungry,’ Luke complains.

‘Do you ever stop eating?’ Theo asks.

‘I’m a growing boy.’

‘Sure, there’s a food court up ahead,’ Jake replies as he leads us towards the destination.

I look back to see Iris walking behind. I slow my pace so that I fall in line with her.

Her emotions were not easily hidden on her innocent face. Her pain was evident in the crease of her brow and forehead. As I look into her eyes, I knew something was wrong.

‘Are you okay?’

She suddenly stops, grabbing my arm for balance. I reach out to hold her steady.

‘Can’t-can’t you feel it?’ she manages to let out.

I look around, trying to fathom what she’s on about.
